London!

So I just got back from London... What an extrodinary city! We went all over the place and saw so many things its hard to know where to start, so I will put it in point form so its easier to follow... and ask me about the details later if anything is unclear :)

Friday Morning:
- Charlbury train cancelled... have to go to Oxford by bus, then catch a train to Reading and then transfer to a train for London Paddington (wow!)
- take the tube (London Underground subway) to Trafalger Square where we find the Canadian embassy and the National Gallery
- spend the better part of the day looking at the paintings in the National Gallery
- go to Pickadilly Backpacker's Hostel to check in
- go out for supper and then find a show that is playing for cheap for 4 ppl
- Go and see Mousetrap, the longest running show in the world
- go to the hostel and go to sleep

Saturday:
- wake up and eat breakfast at hostel (only feed you toast but that's okay)
- walk in the rain to Westminister Abbey, taking photos on the way
- go into Westminster (the most beautiful church ever! It is so great and just wonderful! I met a lady there who told me about the congergation that still worships there... it was great to meet another Christian so far away from home in that place!)
- go to St. James Park and Buckingham palace (didn't see the queen Uncle Luke). Found out that Canada has the best gate in the park and we were quite proud!
- took the tube to Tower of London and Tower Bridge
- Toured Tower of London with a great tour guide and explored the place
- caught the tube and then the train home

I know that is really rough but it gives you an idea of what I have been up to for the weekend. Highlights were definitely Westminster and seeing all the ppl that I learned about right there, St. James Park and walking around Buckingham Palace (definitely as beautiful as you see it in pictures!), and seeing the Queen's coronation in the Tower of London, and just being surrounded by the history of it all! It was definitely one great day!
Anyway, have a great sunday all!
Cheers!

hey julie, good to hear that you're having fun! we did most of those things when we were backpacking there... i loved the tower of london tour (those guys are a lot of fun!)...

we did walk all around st.james park to find a canadian monument, but only saw that triangular fountain thing with the maple leaves imbeded... must've missed the gate :)

if you go back to london make sure you check out the british museum (to see the rosetta stone at least) and st. paul's cathedral (another beautiful church)

all the best,
