Hey everyone,
Today was a day of exploring Oxford! We started by catching the train to Oxford station and then went to the Bodleian and the Oxford Libraries for some research work. Although I love the priviledge of using the Bodleian, the system is so confusing that to some degree it is so frustrating to even use the resources they have here! You cannot take the books out of the library and even those libraries that you can take books out of, others may have already taken them out or they are not as scholarly as you want... especially with paper deadlines looming, this is becoming really annoying. But after those morning distractions the day was so much better :)
We went on a walking tour of Oxford, content to be tourists for at least one day! We walked to Magdalen Bridge and took a tour of the outer Botanical Gardens... it was breathtaking! I have never seen anythign so beautiful and it was in January! I can just imagine what it must look like in the summer! Definitely a highlight! We also walked all over and ended up going to the Bird and the Babe (better known as the Eagle and Child) for a English pub lunch. Also a highlight to sit in the same pub that C.S.Lewis and Tolkien sat when talking and critiquing each others work. It was definitely cool!
It's amazing how much Oxford changed on the weekend. Especially going there during the week and then going there on Saturday... it is quite the difference! But we also explored several old/new bookshops including Oxfam and Blackwells that was really really cool... got some sweet books to have as well. All in all it has been a great day!
I suppose I should also update you on the previous couple of days. Yesterday we had a busy day of classes and then some of us were invited to sing in the chapel and go to formal hall at Regents. Choir was great! Its not large and not near as professional as Redeemer but it is really great and it's fun to meet and hang out with the Regents students... plus I get to sing, what else could be better than that :) Anyway, after that was formal hall. All the colleges have a formal dinner on Friday Evenings, kinda like a formal in highschool or university but cocktail dresses instead of ballgowns. It was a lot of fun but interesting to see the ppl we eat lunch with in a whole new light:). After that we went to the JCR at Regents which was alright but not everything ppl crack it up to be. But it was fun anyway.
Anyway, gtg. Hope to hear from you all soon... doing my best to stay in touch :)
Cherrio!

Spring comes early in England, so maybe you'll get to see the flowers at the Botanical Garden coming out! It is a beautiful place to be in--you'll have to make time for nice long walks around Oxford in between all the reading and studying.
Hey Julie,
Loving your commentary and feel like I can see what you can...love that you had tea where Lewis and Tolkein met. Saw Hannah Friday and she is lovely and bubbly as ever! We finally have a decent amount of snow! Its been fun the last few days. Keep having loads of fun and enjoy every moment.
Lovingly, Sam x0x0
